Exciting news for the Families In Transition Ministry! God has been leading us to move forward from providing furniture and household goods to families coming out of homelessness, having a Good News Club at the Hartford Apartments, and developing relationships in the community, to an exciting new ministry opportunity. God has opened the door to establish a Ministry Center at the Hartford Apartments!
The purpose is to have a physical presence in the neighborhood where God has led us to serve our community. This next step in ministry in the Hartford Apartments/Carver Elementary neighborhood will enable us to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to children and families, and to be the hands and feet of Jesus. We want to go out to where people are to share the love of Jesus Christ.
To that end, God has opened the door for the FIT Ministry to rent an apartment at the Hartford Apartments. The vision is that the Ministry Center will be a place for children to gather on Saturday morning for pancakes, Bible study, and fun; a library for children’s books; and a resource center for household goods. At this time, the focus is the children. As God leads, other ministries will develop, and the center may be a place for worship and prayer.
The Opening Event will be SATURDAY MARCH 4. We need your help!
1. Please pray! We need to cover this ministry in prayer. As Paul said “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Please pray for the Ministry Center!
2. Will you help on Saturday March 4? We need folks to help with setting up, cooking, fellowship.
March 1, 7:00 pm, Colonial Harbor Activities Room.
Please join in for our Ash Wednesday Service. The service marks the beginning of the forty days of Lent. It is a time of penitence, fasting and prayer, in preparation for the Easter. The forty days refer to our Lord’s time of fasting in the wilderness.
The service will include the imposition of ashes for those who wish to receive them. As our liturgy reminds us: “Throughout the Old Testament, ashes are used as a sign of sorrow and repentance, and Christians have traditionally used the same to indicate sorrow for our own sin, and as a reminder that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Like Adam and Eve, we have disobeyed and rebelled against God, and are under the same judgment, “you are dust, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19b). But as we are marked with ashes in the same manner that we were signed with the cross in Baptism, we are also reminded of the life we share in Jesus Christ, the second Adam (Romans 5:17, 6:4). It is in this sure hope that we begin the journey of these forty days, that by hearing and answering our Savior’s call to repent, we may enter fully into the joyful celebration of his resurrection.”
Welcome to Christ Church Between the Rivers! We are a mission church on the Peninsula, and would love for you to join in.
We meet for worship on Sundays at 11:00 am, Colonial Harbor, 2405 Fort Eustis Boulevard, Yorktown, VA in the Activities Room. Please see the link for directions.
In our worship we sing hymns and praise songs, read Scripture, hear a Bible-based sermon, pray, and receive Holy Communion every week.
We are grateful to Colonial Harbor for allowing us to worship in their facility, and welcome all residents to worship with us.
Please invite a friend or neighbor to join in. Remember, our vision is to build bridges to a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ, so let’s build some bridges in Colonial Harbor and to our neighbors!
In consideration of visitors to Colonial Harbor residents, please park in the perimeter parking spaces or on the access road off Fort Eustis Boulevard. Thank you!
